Living with Aging and Dying: Palliative and End of Life Care for Older People 2011

Ageing populations mean that palliative and end of life care for older people needs to be given greater priority. Indeed, there is an urgent need to improve the experience of older people at the end of life, given that they have been identified as 'dying disadvantaged'. To date, models of care are based on the ideals of specialist palliative care, which have been developed to meet the needs of mainly middle-aged and 'younger older people', and evidence suggests that these may not be appropriate for an older population. This book outlines ways to improve the experience of older people at the end of life, using an interdisciplinary and international approach.
