Global mental health and neuroethics (2015)

19 December 2022

Global mental health is a relatively new field that focuses on disparities in mental health services in different settings and on innovative ways to provide feasible, acceptable and effective services in low-resource settings. Neuroethics is also a relatively new field, lying at the intersection of bioethics and neuroscience. This article explores the implications of neuroscientific discoveries for age-old philosophical questions, as well as questions about the ethics of new neuroscientific methods and interventions. It addresses a number of issues that lie at the intersection of the two fields, including the importance of human rights in neuropsychiatric care and the value of patient inclusion and empowerment.
