Doctor-pharmacist communication in hospitals: strategies, perceptions, limitations and opportunities

Effective communication between healthcare professionals contributes to safe and efficient patient care, while lack of communication can lead to adverse patient outcomes and increased healthcare expenditure. The preference for verbal communication among doctors and pharmacists was confirmed by the expressed need to build professional relationships and receive responses. Perceptions of the effectiveness of verbal communication methods were associated with perceptions that they were convenient and accurate. However, it is important to consider that receive-and-response functionality in electronic medication and records management systems can enhance communication.
