Opportunities to improve COVID-19 provider communication resources: A systematic review

19 December 2022

The aim of this article is to identify opportunities for the development of future curricula and tools to support communication during the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 89 sources were included in the review. All but three articles described physician communication, with patient communication as the dominant theme. Limited communication channels, lack of family, time, professional burnout, telemedicine and limited patient-centred care were identified as communication barriers. Factors facilitating communication were team communication, time, patient- and family-centred communication and available training resources.Future development of communication resources should include members of the multidisciplinary team, communication with the family and support related to moral distress
