Introduction. The aim of the present study was to establish the relationship between type of treatment and quality of life in oncology patients and to examine factors that differentiate patients' quality of life at the level of physical, cognitive, emotional and social functioning, distinguishing between causal and symptomatic treatment.
Material and method. Quality of life studies were carried out in two groups of patients divided according to the type of treatment and care they received. Eighty patients were studied. The first group consisted of 40 causally treated patients undergoing chemotherapy. The second group consisted of symptomatic patients under home hospice care. The QLQ-C30, a quality of life measurement tool, was used in the study.
Results and conclusions. The study shows that the quality of life of patients under causal treatment does not differ from that of symptomatic patients, and that the most important level of functioning during cancer is physical functioning, which remains related to the quality of life of patients in both groups.
