CNO BIOETICS

It is not a question of virtue ethics telling the doctor what he should or should not do, or what he is allowed or not allowed to do for the good of the patient, but of showing him that it is worth taking responsibility for his own moral development and working on his character in order to become morally better and more fulfilled professionally. And this is what, although secondarily, truly serves the good of the patients themselves. A person who is aware of his or her own moral responsibility, who is concerned about his or her own development and who develops ethical virtues appropriate to his or her profession will be a better guarantor of concern for the good and interests of the patient than any standards written down in a law or code of ethics.
