12 December 2022

One of the main treatment methods in oncology is radiotherapy. The knowledge of patients treated with radiotherapy about this procedure is still insufficient. This can result in dysfunctional beliefs about radiotherapy and fear of this treatment method. Increased anxiety and depressive disorders, on the other hand, may adversely affect the clinical picture of the disease and the treatment process, so it is very important to take systemic measures to reduce anxiety in patients treated with radiotherapy, including improved communication. The radiotherapy technician plays an important role in the therapeutic process and should therefore demonstrate psychological skills, especially in terms of communication within the therapeutic team and with the patient. This article presents data on the specificity of anxiety in patients undergoing radiotherapy and its causes, the importance of

symptoms of anxiety and depression in the treatment process and some aspects of appropriate communication with the patient and within the treatment team.
