This article presents the general principles of communication and the problems encountered in the relationship between doctors and patients. In addition, barriers and mistakes made in mutual contacts are identified, the basic principles of information transfer are highlighted, and the analysis of the influence of the characteristics of the sender, recipient and situational context is treated as a starting point for work on improving communication. A special role was attributed to the interpersonal skills of GPs shaping the attitudes and participation of patients in the treatment process.
