The book provides an overview of the different forms of coercion, the conditions under which they are used, and their consequences for the health and wellbeing of older people. It then explores practical approaches to minimisation, emphasising the importance of person-centred care. Innovative programmes and approaches to reducing the use of restraints around the world are described and evaluated, and case studies are developed to

highlighting practical challenges and their effective solutions. The perspectives of older people and their carers and families as well as professionals are also considered. The co-authors are drawn from the international health and social care community, as well as from academia. This volume will help health and social care professionals to better understand the complex issues surrounding the use of restraints and enable safer services to be delivered.
