This book is divided into 23 chapters. The introductory chapters introduce the basic concepts of medical ethics, such as the relationship between the legal system and ethics, ethical documents, ethical theories and ethical analysis. Subsequent chapters address issues that are important in all areas of medicine: respect for autonomy, communication, relationships within the healthcare team, professional malpractice, limited resources and the portrait of the physician. The third part of the book, in turn, focuses on ethical aspects in a wide range of medical activities - prevention, human reproduction, genetics, paediatrics, intensive care, palliative medicine, clinical trials, unproven methods of diagnosis and treatment, and the role of doctors who are not directly responsible for patient care. The book is a valuable resource for physicians of all specialties, medical students, specialists and students in other human health disciplines, journalists and readers with a general interest in medicine.
