Public trust in the health professions has declined in recent decades. One factor may be the flood of health information available from various sources. However, how the acquisition of health information affects patient trust remains unclear. In particular, the acquisition of information through traditional media (e.g. newspaper, television)
declined, but increased in new media (e.g. online). Patient-centred communication was found to mediate the relationship between all three types of health information acquisition and patients' trust in doctors.
