Telemedicine in Poland - legal, medical and ethical aspects

15 December 2022

Telemedicine, as a form of healthcare delivery, undoubtedly facilitates physician-patient contact, but it also carries certain risks due to the absence of an in-person physical examination. This article aims to outline the long-standing legal and ethical standards applicable to a physician providing telemedicine services and the ongoing legislative work, including in primary care (PHC). The authors also point out that the rapid development of technology, providing opportunities for better diagnosis and treatment, also allows for the use of other health professions, which should be covered by legislation on the provision of telemedicine services. However, this does not change the fact that telemedicine is a form of complement to traditional medicine, which currently cannot develop without organisational guidelines and standards.
