Medical Research Agency signs Letter of Intent to promote humanism in medicine

16 March 2022

The Minister of Health, the President of the Medical Research Agency and the Rector of the University of Warsaw have signed a Letter of Intent on cooperation in disseminating the idea of humanism in medicine.

At the heart of the signing of the Letter is the need for interdisciplinary cooperation to promote the idea of humanism in the scientific discipline of medical science, with a particular focus on how healthcare services are delivered, how patient rights are respected and how clinical research is conducted with the primary aim of improving the quality and prolonging the life of the patient.

- The humanisation of medicine is the great challenge of the 21st century, which we should courageously face. This initiative seeks, first and foremost, to put the patient at the centre of the health system and the treatment process itself. : Not being a doctor myself, but as a patient, I have seen what treatment looks like when medical staff are not focused on the patient and procedures are performed. -  emphasises Minister of Health Adam Niedzielski.

Within the framework of the adopted declaration, the Medical Research Agency, commissioned by the Minister of Health, will conduct, among other things, a scientific study to assess the degree of humanisation of medicine in terms of medical professions, therapeutic teams, with particular attention to the patient-doctor relationship, as well as to assess the impact of the state of epidemic emergency and the state of epidemics associated with the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus on these relationships. The study will also pay particular attention to clinical trial participants. The funding source for the study will be a grant provided by the Minister of Health.
