Proving the indicated main thesis of the dissertation required research involving an intra-systemic view of the autonomy of a patient with mental disorders based on the legal regulations contained in the Act on Patients' Rights and the Ombudsman for Patients' Rights, the Act on the Profession of Physician and Dentist and the Act on the Protection of Mental Health. The dissertation consists of five chapters devoted to the issues of human autonomy, the concept and classification of mental disorders, the scope of autonomy of a patient with mental disorders, the consent of a patient with mental disorders, the provision of mental health care services in the context of respecting the autonomy of a patient with mental disorders. The considerations were conducted on the basis of social opinion surveys, statistical data, case law, as well as the position of the doctrine ordering the knowledge on autonomy.
