Born with a cap. The invisible heroines of hospital corridors

15 December 2022

Nurses.

They finish difficult studies, get low salaries. They are frustrated when they are treated only as doctors' assistants - after all, they are doing a hard and demanding job. Often unrewarding, too, because patients can be a pain in the ass.

And yet they love what they do. They derive great satisfaction from their work and want to care for the sick. Nursing is more than a profession.

Walk through the hospital corridor with them and you will find out what their lives are really like.

These were long hours of conversations with staff from various departments and hospitals from many cities and facilities. In understanding their experiences, analysing their thoughts and recalling my own experiences, I can repeat one of my favourite questions even more loudly:

I'm a nurse, and what is your superpower?

I am a nurse. I have a blog where I try to de-glamourise the image of my profession. I am fascinated by people. I am in love with Krakow, red cocker-spaniels, singing, winter, anaesthesiology and intensive care and, above all, nursing.
