It will hurt

'It's going to hurt. The Secret Diary of a Young Doctor by Adam Kay is the author's account of working as a young doctor in the UK's National Health Service (NHS) hospitals between 2004 and 2010. Working as a gynaecologist, obstetrician and surgeon, Kay has encountered many peculiar, frightening, comical and very often difficult to imagine cases and situations in his career; he describes them with his usual sense of humour and detachment (Kay is also a comedian, stand-up, radio presenter and film and TV writer). Kay's book draws you in and makes you laugh from the very first pages: on the one hand, with its hilarious narrative, on the other, with incidents from his stand-up routine that not even the most gifted writers of black humour comedy scripts would have thought of. It soon becomes apparent, however, that the reader's laughter - the inevitable result of reading It Will Hurt - is in fact laughter through tears."
