This article presents different ways of understanding the concept of quality of life. It shows which factors can determine quality of life and how this issue is recognised in the context of medicine and psychology. Attention was also paid to its subjective and objective aspects. An attempt was made to show that the patient's quality of life, especially in the context of rheumatology, cannot be considered one-dimensionally, only on a medical or psychological level. The assessment and planning of actions aimed at improving and preserving a patient's quality of life requires a holistic approach, taking into account both psychological and medical aspects of a patient's functioning. The article is divided into three sections: quality of life in medical science, quality of life and happiness in psychological concepts and the importance of quality of life in rheumatology.
