The paper consists of four chapters. The first is based on an analysis of the literature on the subject - it presents the issue of quality of life, taking into account the origins of the concept, its definition and research in psychology and medicine, especially in psychiatry.
Chapter II deals with the methodology of our own research - it discusses the problem of the study and the research hypotheses, and includes the characteristics of the study population, the methods of psychological statistical analyses used. The third chapter presents the results of our own research obtained in the whole group of people studied and in the groups of people with depression and schizophrenia. The issues of this chapter concern, in turn, the psychological characteristics of quality of life and functioning in the personal, emotional and social spheres, the establishment of correlates of the determinants of the sense of quality of life, and an attempt to typify people with a different structure of quality of life. The whole is concluded by the fourth chapter, which contains a summary of the results of own research, together with a discussion based on the literature on the subject.
