The management of chronic diseases requires from the patient sound knowledge, trust in medical specialists, the will to live and belief in the effectiveness of therapy, patience and discipline. The results of studies, including those conducted by the Scientific Foundation of Polpharma, indicate a paucity of knowledge in society about chronic diseases and factors that support the effectiveness of therapy. This lack of knowledge does not allow patients to consciously participate in determining the therapy process and weakens their motivation to adhere to therapeutic recommendations. The Scientific Foundation of Polpharma was the first institution in Poland that decided to draw attention to the problem of non-adherence to therapeutic recommendations during the treatment of chronic diseases - the scientific community, medical professionals and the public. We trust that the handbook provided to you will be helpful in better understanding the consequences of non-adherence to therapeutic recommendations, and the practical tips contained in it will facilitate communication and negotiation with the patient to reduce them. The Board of the Scientific Foundation of Polpharma would like to thank all those involved in the preparation of the publication for publication, the authors, the members of the Foundation's authorities and the publisher. Special thanks go to the management of Polpharma for their financial support, without which the publication of this handbook would not have been possible.
