Throughout history, patients in psychiatric institutions have often been inadequately treated. These individuals have been isolated, humiliated and excluded. On the other hand, treatment often goes against subjective/agent positions and the rights of people with mental disorders to make so-called positive changes. The perception of inappropriate handling of the cited group of patients has sometimes been the beginning of actions aimed at responsible care for people with schizophrenia or depression. This care is also unique in its need to continue to use coercive measures against the patient. This article aims to present the past and current situation of patients in psychiatric hospitals. It will also outline the basic principles currently in place to protect the rights of those treated in these hospitals.
