Bioethics, contemporary challenges, and the social teaching of the Catholic Church

14 December 2022

The study covers the scope of the concept and the meaning and development of bioethics, its impact on social life as well as on other areas of human life. The arguments in favour of the development of medical science and the use of new therapeutic methods are presented, and the danger they pose is mentioned. The problem is pointed out that bioethics and the ways of using available medical technology in many cases disturb the Catholic Church, are incompatible with the Church's teaching and endanger human life and the social order. The main problems include abortion (protection of the nasciturus), euthanasia, assisted suicide, and persuading someone to do so. A number of documents, letters and speeches have been devoted to the above questions up to the present time, henceforth these problems are contemporary and affect the various environments discussed.
