The constantly advancing development of medical knowledge, as well as the technology supporting it, gives rise to new, previously unknown ethical dilemmas. Codes of professional ethics, as well as existing legislation, are usually helpful in solving them. However, the continuous development of science is outpacing the development of codified ethical norms or law. This state of affairs, among others, contributed to the emergence of bioethics in the 1970s. Bioethics is based on the biological nature of human beings and the development of biotechnology. The aim is to show the conflicts arising at the interface between these two elements in relation to the medical, philosophical, sociological and psychological dimensions. As a multidisciplinary field, bioethics requires the cooperation of representatives of many professions, among which nurses should play an important role. Nursing, as one of the important elements of the health care system, cannot function in isolation from bioethical problems emerging in contemporary societies. Bioethical reflection does not mean displacing the traditional ethics of the profession collected in the form of codes of professional ethics, but provides additional guidance in solving moral dilemmas. The aim of this study was to present the relationship between bioethics and nursing.
