The third volume of the Bioethics Anthology is devoted to biomedical research involving human subjects. It contains translations of some 20 important texts, mainly by American authors, dealing with topics such as:
- the differences between a clinical trial and medical care;
- General conditions for the acceptability of medical research on human beings (risk minimisation, principle of informed consent);
- special requirements that are imposed on medical research involving vulnerable patients (e.g. children or mentally demented persons);
- as well as the moral and non-moral motives that may prompt participation in medical research.
