The presented monograph is an interdisciplinary study devoted to the applications of human DNA analysis for medical and non-medical purposes. The book addresses, among others, issues related to preimplantation and prenatal diagnosis, the principles of genetic testing for medical purposes, the use of genetic data (primarily in insurance and employment) and genetic identification of individuals and police DNA databases. The author presents and analyses international standards in force in this area (binding and enacted), European Union regulations and selected national regulations. She also attempts to identify areas in which the discoveries and applications of genetics converge with human rights issues. The publication thus becomes part of an extremely topical discussion on the bioethical dimension of the protection of individual rights.
