In the article, I demonstrate the distinctiveness of professional medical ethics in three ways, namely:
1. showing the differences of the normative position of duties (behaviours, values, virtues) in professional and general ethics, 2. justifying the belonging of medical professional ethics to the borrowing model as a type of applied ethics, 3. giving the rationale for historical professionalism as an ethics proper to the medical state. The distinctiveness of medical professional ethics provides an important argument for its placement in the ethical education plan of medical students and doctors. In the final part of the paper, I reconstruct the actual and postulated relationships between professional ethics and professionalism, academic bioethics and public bioethics. The aim of the reconstruction is to indicate the optimal place for ethics education of professional ethics in the system of ethical education of professionals.
