This is followed by an introduction to selected theories in philosophical ethics, and the third section presents issues specific to modern medicine. The individual chapters clearly characterise the ethical standards relevant to the various fields of medical practice and in dealing with patients.
A strength of the study is its strong emphasis on the real-life aspects of the doctor's work and the dilemmas that occur in it. In particular, much attention has been paid to the doctor-patient relationship.
The textbook is aimed at medical students and other medical faculties as a basis for teaching philosophy and medical ethics. It will undoubtedly also be a resource for doctors and others working in the medical profession.
