Communication in the helping relationship - the suicidological aspect

14 December 2022

This paper is a summary of considerations related to the topic of communication in a helping situation. The topic related to the communication aspect is very often addressed by professionals from many fields, but it is still a significant problem and there are no practical implications to improve the situation. This paper presents one selected screening method from a battery of surveys conducted since 2014. The survey included adolescents (19-26 years old), mostly from the Lubelskie Voivodeship. Finally, the responses of 120 volunteers working at the Association of the Volunteer Centre in Lublin (Psychiatric Clinic) were taken into account. The research is both quantitative and qualitative. The results of the analyses can be included in the discussion on the definition and functioning of volunteering as a phenomenon that is still not in the interest of research in the social sciences. Volunteers are a distinctive group who are involved free of charge in a variety of assistance activities, quality and commitment to the projects carried out. Therefore, the work has a theoretical and practical dimension in relation to the attached elements on projective methods with which more information can be obtained from the research group. Sometimes correct communication at work, in the environment or in the family avoids many negative situations, including those related to suicide or self-harm.
