This article is devoted to the presentation and analysis of the results of a hospital-based study on interpersonal communication among doctors. The aim of the article is to show the important role of proper communication among medical staff in the process of decision-making and contact with patients. The better the quality of the communication process, the more effective it will be. Nowadays, the high awareness of patients regarding their health condition and treatment processes forces physicians to take a holistic view of sick people, taking into account their physical and emotional state, and to move away from progressive dehumanisation. It should be borne in mind that the patient has the right to request information concerning his or her illness, and the doctor has a duty to provide the patient with comprehensive explanations, taking into account the adaptation of the level of detail of the information provided to the patient to his or her ability to comprehend medical terminology, individual needs and mental state.
