Clinical communication is an art that determines the doctor's professional approach to the patient, increasing the chance of therapeutic success. At the Faculty of Medicine of the Jagiellonian University Medical College, second-year students take classes in clinical communication. Since the 2015/2016 academic year, classes have been held with trained simulated patients. The aim of this survey study was to determine the importance of professional simulated patients in teaching clinical communication and medical students' perception of the course. A qualitative analysis of the anonymous questionnaires showed that classes with professionally simulated patients, preceded by student preparation for the course, help to master the communication skills of future doctors. Students prefer to act out scenes with professional simulated patients that allow them to understand patients' emotions. Acting out scenes allows students to 'step into the shoes of both doctor and patient'. It allows them to practice emotionally difficult situations in a repetitive and safe (laboratory) environment - with simulated patients.
