The aim of this article is to take a multifaceted approach to illness as a bio-cultural phenomenon. Highlighting the enormous potential that lies in the narrative of physical and psychological condition can lead to breaking the monopoly of the natural sciences in this field. Subjective perceptions of degradation, defects and human frailty are combined with practices that lead to the textualisation of illness and the construction of new meanings around it. In humanistic medicine, the suffering person is placed at the centre of therapeutic action. The article also reflects on the current biotechnological revolution - the grand project of improving the current version of humans to take our species to another level.
