Medical communication for students and doctors

12 December 2022

"The book will help improve the doctor's communication with the patient. It comes out of the medical community and refers not only to the deeply humanistic paradigm of medicine, points out the value of collaboration and the benefits of a healthy relationship with patients, but shows how to practice the medical profession in an effective way. Importantly, presented in a practical form, the principles and ways of communication are presented in the context of medical data and the realities of our daily work. It can serve as a textbook for both students and doctors who would like to supplement the knowledge they did not have the chance to learn during their studies. The main focus is on communication techniques that help, among other things, in initiating a consultation, structuring it, building the doctor-patient relationship, taking a history and conducting a physical examination, and closing a consultation. In addition, ways of delivering unhelpful messages, techniques for communicating with a patient with a mental disorder and principles of communication within the treatment team are discussed. The last part of the publication is a collection of scenarios taken from everyday medical practice, which can be used for self-study and to check the degree of assimilation of the content in the book."
