The patient's right of access to medical records is an important right in Poland. Medical records contain information about a patient's state of health and the medical procedures performed on them. The patient or a person authorised by the patient has the right to inspect the medical records. This right may be exercised at the place where medical services are provided, by viewing, taking notes or photographs, as well as by making copies, copies, extracts and print-outs, provided that the doctor's consent is obtained and a fee is paid in accordance with the regulations of the treatment facility. If the patient has not authorised anyone to access his or her medical records, then an application to the Patient Ombudsman, the Medical Adjudication Committee or the law enforcement authorities may be considered to verify the proper treatment of the deceased patient.
